Brugge: A Quintessential Dream

If Brussels was not what I was expecting, Brugge was everything that I was in the best way possible. Our second stop in Belgium, we arrived on a Saturday morning, the sun just peeking through the clouds as we made our way to the Air Bnb. Once we had our things settled in, we took off on the town to explore. A walk through the town boasted canals and corridors, cathedrals and cobblestones lining every side of the street. The many city squares we saw displayed classic architecture and colorful flowers, doors and windows giving each building its own individual personality. Every corner … [Read more...]

Study Abroad Europe: Exploring Belgium

For our first weekend trip, some friends and I wanted to travel somewhere fairly close to familiarize ourselves with the transportation system. We ended up finding the town of Bouillon, Belgium which matched our criteria of having a castle, being less than 5 hours away, and having an inexpensive hostel. Bouillon is a gorgeous small town with a homey vibe that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet weekend trip. However, getting there was an adventure that we did not anticipate. We planned the trip out very carefully using the Eurail app and bus schedule for the area. … [Read more...]

Group Travel Europe: B is for Brussels

This weekend we decided to take it easy and only go on a day trip. Brussels, Belgium is about two hours away from Maastricht, where we are studying abroad, so we thought it would be the perfect place to visit just for a day and then hit the books. The theme of the Maastricht Pre-Med study abroad trip—or what I have gathered so far—is “work hard, play hard.” This week we had a ton of studying to do, so it was good to stay at home and chill. It’s funny how readily I call Maastricht “home” now. After only three weeks, I find comfort in the familiarity of the city and the warm, kind Dutch … [Read more...]

Group Travel Europe: All About Metros!

Our trip to Brussels was a short one, because we had two study abroad midterms the following week (gross, I know.) The day started off pretty badly, considering that we missed 4 trains AND I got hit by a bus while riding my bike (I wasn't injured thankfully). So after all of those shenanigans we finally made it into the city around 2-3PM. We checked into the hostels and set off for the Cantillon brewery, which is, according to a beer fanatic that we met on the tour, one of the best breweries in the world. After that we walked around the city, eating waffles and Belgian chocolate every chance … [Read more...]

3 Countries in 3 Days: A Warp-Speed Adventure

Last weekend, Baylor in Maastricht students visited three countries in three days-- and lived to tell about the adventure. Here are some highlights from Baylor student, Rozlyn Veteto. For this weekend's adventure, we operated at warp speed. Three countries in three days was an absolutely crazy idea, but we did it! We did a compact tour of Bruges, Paris, and Luxembourg City. Bruges: a step back in time, a jump into the modern day Thursday night we left for destination one: Bruges (via train). Last weekend, our professors visited Bruges, and told us about a pub built in 1515 … [Read more...]
