Baylor in Maastricht: Italy Group Travel

By Madeline Wieters When it rains, it pours. We safely made it home from Scotland, but not before the sweet RyanAir flight attendant tried to charge me £60 to check my bag and the hearing-impaired customs worker in Brussels fought me over my visa (or, rather, lack thereof). For the record, a visa is only required if you are remaining on the continent more than 90 days. We are here 87. Regardless, we made it back to Teikyo and commandeered the laundry rooms to begin repacking. Sometime around midnight, I placed one load of laundry in the dryer, started it, then went … [Read more...]

Baylor in Maastricht: Edinburgh Group Travel

By Madeline Wieters Edinburgh Castle We landed in Edinburgh around 8pm and took a bus into the city. We were all amazed at the beautiful architecture and green hills as we drove through. We were met in the city by fireworks being shot off for a festival that spans the month of August. We walked to our hostel, an old converted church a few minutes off the main street. After meeting our roommates and setting our stuff down we set back into town for the next round of fireworks a local had told us about. Scotland is significantly colder than the rest of the UK, we discovered. … [Read more...]

Baylor in Maastricht: UK Group Travel

By Madeline Wieters Here's what I hadn't bargained for this summer: school. I tend to gloss over the "study" part of "study abroad." That being said, the last week of classes was a rude awakening when I had to write my first two papers of college (I love being a business major), both 10 pages and on subjects about which I have 0 prior knowledge. So that went well. BUT on Friday morning we set out for 10 days in the UK and the worst papers I've ever written were forgotten. We flew out from Maastricht into Dublin in a group of (count em) 14. I can't even describe how happy I was to walk … [Read more...]

Baylor in Great Britain: Paris – City of Lights

By Myriam Villareal The City of Light. Paris was filled with all the romance, beauty, and sophistication that I imagined it to be. I visited Paris briefly when I was a kid, but this was different. I was going to experience and embrace everything that Paris had to offer with liberty and free range to explore. Millennium Tours arranged our group travel weekend trip for a large group of us to Paris. Our hotel was fabulous, the Eurostar was quick, and we had museum passes that allowed us into almost every museum in the city. For the next two days, Paris was ours. Upon our arrival, we … [Read more...]

Baylor in Great Britain: Scotland & The Lake District

By Myriam Villareal Bagpipes, kilts, haggis. Scotland was a place so different from anywhere I had been in the United Kingdom, that I could hardly believe that I was still on the same continent. I had yet to see so much greenery and lush landscape, so I was pleasantly surprised at the sight that met my eyes as we disembarked our train. Edinburgh was different than I had imagined it to be. The city was smaller, yet much prettier than I had anticipated. The Edinburgh Castle seemed so close from every angle of the city, even though it sat atop a hill and required a steep walk up the … [Read more...]

Baylor in Great Britain: Group Travel to Barcelona

By Maggie King Traveling to Barcelona on Thursday involved a tube, train, and airplane ride- So pretty much an entire day of travel before we reached Spain. This time we weren’t informed of fun facts about the city we would spend the next couple of days in. We soon figured out this was because most people in Barcelona don’t speak English. My foreign language (sign language-thank you speech path) was no help over here, so I let the others talk to the cab driver while I chilled in the back. “La playa” Got us a taxi to Port Olimpic where a small group of us all shared tapas on the … [Read more...]

Baylor in Great Britain: The Month of a Lifetime

By Chelsea Cates For Audrey Noelle As I sit here with only three days left in London, I look back to all of the amazing things I have experienced during this group trip and smile. I have seen more famous sites than most people see in a lifetime, I’ve made so many new friends, and I’ve learned a lot about myself and about life. I always knew I would love Europe, but had no idea what was actually in store for me the day I signed up for BGB 2013. I will never forget all of the memories I have made, or the people I have met. The unique aspect of Baylor in Great Britain is that we have … [Read more...]
